Rock, pop, folk, reggae or country. Whatever type of music you listen to they all have one thing in common- guitar.

No other instrument has been at the heart of so many revolutions and in The Story of Guitar Heroes Phil Walker will take you on a mind-blowing journey through history that pays homage to legendary artists and features more than 20 guitars.

How did you come to think of 'The Story Of Guitar Heroes'?

About 3 years ago I was watching 'guitar heroes at the BBC', and that got me wondering how I could write a theatre show that payed homage to some of these heroes.

I've always tried to play in the style of any guitar player I was covering, so the challenge was on!!

Which Heroes have you chosen to portray in the show and how difficult was it to choose?

It wasn't that difficult to choose really. I spent a lot of time asking people who their favourite guitar players were and a lot of the same names kept popping up. Players like, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Hank Marvin, Mark Knopfler and Joe Satriani. We feature around 18 different guitar heroes in the show altogether.

Who were your guitar idols growing up?

My main idols when I was growing up were probably Hank Marvin and Albert Lee.

Who else is performing with you on stage?

I have another guitarist called Toby James, bass player called Dave Axcell and drummer named Kristian Dluzewski who also takes lead vocal on Hotel California. We also use two big video screens in which we show footage of the different heroes we pay homage to.

Which guitar is your favourite?

I have an old Fender Stratocaster that my parents gave to me when I was eleven years old. It's rather worn out now, but it still gets used in the show.

- How long have you been playing guitar?

I started when I was six years old.

Which style is the most difficult to play and also your favourite genre?

That's difficult!! haha. We do a song in the show called Country Boy by Albert Lee. It's a really fast country picking song that takes a lot of concentration. Then again, when you play in the style of someone like Joe Satriani who is one of the best rock guitar players out there, you kind of have to be on the ball with that style as well. I wouldn't say any style is easy if you are going to do it justice. It is difficult for me to choose a favourite genre. I think thats why I love this show so much, because I get to play all different genres.

- What was the first band you were in?

I formed a band with some school friends when I was 10 or 11. They wern't really that interested after a while so I formed a band with my dad who was a bass player.

Do you play any other instruments?

Yes. I play a little banjo and mandolin. I have also played drums with some well known theatre shows.

Have you ever played with a Guitar Hero live?

I haven't actually played on stage with a guitar hero, but I did meet Albert Lee recently who was kind enough to sign one of my guitars.
