Prepare yourself for New Year celebrations with a concert from the Watford Youth Sinfonia, formed in 2014 by a 17-year-old.
Founder Daniel Hogan established it with the aim to give local, talented young people a chance to make music together. He is also a champion of new composers and so far, has managed to include one premiere in every one of the Sinfonia’s concerts.
For the next, on January 30, the orchestra will be performing two Russian favourites, Tchaikovsky’s tale of two lovers Francesca da Rimini and Rachmaninov's life second symphony.
As always, the concert features a world premiere, which this time is Dan’s own viola concerto as he can compose as well as conduct. He has won two Royal Academy of Music’s junior prizes for composition.
The soloist for the evening will be Alinka Rowe who is just 18, but already a promising virtuoso. Formally the principal viola player with the National Youth Orchestra, she joins the Watford Youth Sinfonia to play this reflective and personal piece.
St Luke’s Church, Langley Way, Watford, WD17 3EG, Friday, January 30, 7.30pm. Details: watfordyouthsinfonia.com, email watfordys@gamil.com
