The French horn is the instrument of choice for Trinity Orchestra’s spring concert as Harrow’s premier community ensemble continues its 30th anniversary season.

The orchestra’s musical director Michael Murray is professor of horn at Trinity College of Music in London and a member of the BBC Symphony Orchestra. A Harrow resident, Michael will open with the overture to Humperdinck’s popular opera Hansel and Gretel, a lyrical piece which includes an exquisite chorale played by the orchestra’s horn section.

“The horn holds a unique place in the orchestra. It has the ability blend with and accompany every section and yet is able to convey such a wide range of colours and emotions from the tearful to the joyful and from the understated to the positively boisterous,” says Michael.

The concert’s next piece is the Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings by Benjamin Britten. The soloists for this performance are Martin Owen, widely regarded as one of Europe’s leading horn-players, who is professor of horn at the Royal Academy of Music, principal horn of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and regularly appears as guest principal horn with the major London orchestras; and tenor Andrew Sinclair, a Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate, who has sung at venues including the Musikverein in Vienna and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.

Players are drawn from the local area and include professional musicians and accomplished amateurs.
