Keeping up with its community spirit, Watford Philharmonic Society is hosting its Christmas Concert in conjunction with Chater Junior School Choir.

The young choristers performance will be with their own conductor Mrs Olyett. They aim to show the lighter side of the modern festive season with some enthusiastic singing of popular songs such as Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, Mary Had a Baby and Frosty the Snowman.

Under the baton of Watford Philharmonic Society conductor Terry Edwards, the choir and orchestra will perform a mixture of well-loved Christmas songs and carols, together with some beautiful but less well-known pieces. The guest soloist is baritone Daniel Grice, who trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has performed a wide variety of roles as part of the Royal Opera House’s Jette Parker Young Artist Programme.

During the second half of the programme the audience will be invited to join the choir and orchestra in The Holly and the Ivy in an arrangement by Terry, whose first professional post was as music teacher at Rickmansworth Grammar School. Since then his distinguished career has included working for 12 years as chorus director at the Royal Opera House and founding and directing London Voices.

The Christmas Concert is at Watford Colosseum, Rickmansworth Road, Watford on Wednesday, December 14 at 7pm. Details: 0845 075 3993, www.watfordphilharmonic.co.uk
