AS one door closes another one opens and so as we wave a fond farewell to Watford Live! Community Arts Festival we also herald in the annual Bushey Fesitval, which is now celebrating its 26th year.
For The Bushey Symphony Orchestra, the festival marks the end of its current concert season but the group are finishing on a high note with a Scandinavian-themed performance on Saturday, July 4 at 7.30pm at Bushey Hall School in London Road.
The concert features Swedish composer Lars-Erik Larsson’s sunny three-movement Pastoralsvit and closes with Finnish composer Jean Sibelius’ Fifth Symphony.
Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 forms the meat in between, with pianist Tom Poster as soloist.
Since his London concerto debut at the age of 13, Tom has appeared in a wide-ranging concerto repertoire of 30 major works. This will be his second performance as soloist with the Bushey Symphony Orchestra after his amazing account of the Grieg Piano Concerto in 2007.
For concert tickets call: 01923 774229.
The Bushey Festival runs from Saturday, July 4 to Sunday, July 19, and features art exhibitions, children’s activities and a host of fun events. www.festival.bushey.org.uk/
