Two hard-hitting productions are being brought to the stage this month by Irrational Theatre.

First up, on April 5, is a joint project with Solo Theatre to co-produce Claire Dowie’s show Why is John Lennon Wearing a Skirt?

The hilarious award-winning comedy of sexual stereotyping won a London Fringe Award in 1991 and continues to entertain around the world.

It follows the story of a 14-year-old girl who wears trousers and would rather play football than share the sudden awakening interests of her friends and is a blistering rally cry for gender equality.

It will be performed by Claire Downes and is directed by Colin Watkeys.

Life will then take a sickeningly dark turn in Till the Pips Squeak (picture above) – two visceral and shocking new plays delivering two disturbing and unexpected twists, performed on April 11 and 12.

Watford Observer:

Jane Fookes, who wrote the plays says: “I’m very partial to a good thriller and a big fan of the final twist that no one saw coming. What makes Till the Pips Squeak even more terrifying and tragic is the fact that each story is based on actual events, actual people.”

Director Paula Chitty says:”It’s always very satisfying to work with a powerful script that really delivers a punch. We will be introducing audience members to worlds very unfamiliar to them, worlds they will be happy to leave behind at the theatre door".
