Watford Observer: The Songs of Nick Drake

Strange Face

Writer and performer Michael Burdett discovered a Nick Drake recording in a skip in the 1970s. Thirty years later he decided to share it in a unique and extraordinary way. This one-man show charts how Michael Burdett randomly stopped 200 strangers and asked if they wanted to hear the track in return for being photographed. The result is a collection of photographs and stories featuring people from all over Britain. A quirky, funny and award-winning show that celebrates life, coincidence and the legacy of Nick Drake.

Pyar Actually

A rehearsed reading of a new play by Rifco Associate Sukh Ojla. 1987, Bhangra band Premi are performing Nachdi Di Gooth Khulgaye at a day timer gig. Outside, dressed in her best indo-western outfit Polly has been abandoned by her best mate. Nervously, Bali approaches Polly, he doesn’t know her but he knows he wants to make her smile. 30 years on and Polly has a caring husband, two kids, a mundane job at the council and a double garage. She may not have lived the life she dreamed of back when she was a teenager, but she’s comfortable. Bali is now a successful businessman. Loving his jet set lifestyle, he swore he’d never return to the small town he grew up in. So why is he back?
