Hampstead Theatre is in the running for London Theatre of the Year in the 2014 Stage Awards, the industry-leading theatre newspaper has announced.

The theatre, in Swiss Cottage, will battle it out for the title with The Bush Theatre and the Young Vic, in Shepherd’s Bush and Southwark respectively. The Stage Awards, now in their fourth year, ‘celebrate outstanding organisations working in the performing arts’.

Hampstead Theatre was noted for its ‘outstanding box office and audience attendance figures’, with The Stage reporting that average capacity for the theatre was now at more than 90 per cent and a surplus of more than £225,000.

Other categories in the awards include Regional Theatre of the Year, Fringe Theatre of the Year, Producer of the Year, School of the Year, and the Unsung Hero Prize. The winners in each category will be announced at The Stage New Year Party at London’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, on January 31.
