artsdepot in North Finchley welcomes the Capital Age Festival
Capital Age Festival is London's only arts festival made by older people and this year, for the first time ever, will present events in Barnet.
Capital Age Festival has been working with artsdepot to produce a full day of events on Wednesday, July 4. The café will be open during the afternoon for a free cabaret performance of music, dance, storytelling and comedy, and will feature performers from Gwanwyn, Wales’ national festival celebrating creativity in older age and hosted by Ida Barr, the world’s first music hall singer turned RnB rap superstar!
The evening will feature a double-bill of new theatre pieces. Real Me Productions presents a rehearsed reading of The Real Me. This will be followed by a scratch performance of Wot? No Fish!! written and performed by Danny Braverman. Both pieces will feature a post-show discussion with the artists.
Paul Margrave, Festival Director, says: “The festival is all about getting older people involved in creative activities across London and we are delighted to be offering this event in North Finchley.
"Capital Age Festival is a great way to find out what’s happening in your local area and get involved. There are some fantastic performances and events planned. I would encourage everyone, young and old, to come along and enjoy the very best that older Londoners have to offer.”
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, adds: “I am delighted to be sponsoring this year’s Capital Age Festival, London’s largest arts festival by older people. There are 1.2 million people aged over 60 years in London, who contribute a huge amount to the capital’s dynamism.
"With the Olympic and Paralympic Games around the corner, it is clear that this will be a summer like no other. It is fitting that the festival has moved forward in leaps and bounds and for the first time ever is holding a two-week programme of events across London, incorporating many more older artists, varieties of art forms and extending its reach across inner and outer London.”
The festival is supported by The Mayor of London, Arts Council England, The Rayne Foundation and the City Bridge Trust, the City of London Corporation’s Charity.
Capital Age Festival @ artsdepot, Tally Ho Corner, Nether Street, North Finchley is on Wednesday, July 4. The cabaret is from 2.30pm and the theatre performances start at 7pm. Details: 020 8369 5454, www.artsdepot.co.uk
