Poetry and short stories inspired by the town's allotments will soon grace local bus shelters.

The creative efforts of Watford residents who took part in a series of workshops organised by Watford Borough Council and Watford Writers will be displayed across the town.

The works, based on the subject "Watford's allotments in the 21st century" have been turned into bright, eye-catching posters.

The workshops were hosted by successful author Sophie King.

Jackie Green, a member of Watford Writers, said: "Sophie King managed to deliver masses of useful writing techniques, while ensuring everyone enjoyed themselves.

"We relaxed, surprised to discover our individual styles, as she helped us through the workshop.

"Strolling around the allotments afterwards, we were struck by the huge variety of plots and finished the day keen to get scribbling."

The works will also form part of an exhibition at the Space2 Gallery at the Customer Service Centre at the Town Hall which will run from Monday.
