Aidy: Argyle fans crossed the line

Aidy Boothroyd claimed that Jordan Stewart was racially abused by a Plymouth fan at Home Park this afternoon and that he was pelted with coins.

The Watford boss felt a section of the Argyle faithful behind the dug out "crossed the line" during the second-half incident that saw Peter Halmosi, the Plymouth winger, sent off.

The Hungarian hurt himself following a foul on Mat Sadler right in front of the Watford bench. The Watford staff and subs reacted angrily to the challenge, with kit man Bob Oteng petulantly squirting water on the stricken Halmosi.

That incensed the Argyle fans and they became involved in a war of words with Stewart who was clearly disgusted by some of the comments.

"Our bench got aroused because it happened right in front of us. I'll be speaking to my lot and telling them it's important we remain emotionally in control.

"Our club doctor was surrounded by Plymouth fans, they were banging on our dug out and throwing things. I picked up four or five pounds today.

"Jordan was racially abused and thankfully somebody was ejected. You just can't do that and they crossed the line."

"I picked up four or five pounds today".

Great, put it in the transfer kitty for next season then...because that is all we will have to spend after failing to reach the premiership.

Rubbish.

But that is the point...It isn't your "own name" is it!
I find it amazing that this site allows someone to post in another persons name and for those who do.....Get a life and do the decent thing!!
I for one is missing old sage, in a strange way, he was a constant source of amusement to me and on my part was a friendly banter between us supporters until imposters intervened, anyway...
This goalscoring thing is becoming critical now that DH is banned for a couple of games, where on earth are our goals gonna come from?
Aidy has to get someone in, what about Earnshaw? there's only 5 days to go. Good result today as it has been in previous weeks against the teams around us, we've got to start winning against the lesser teams now, so next week against Hull I wouldn't mind another draw, but we're not going to get there by limping along with single points week in week out.
Personally i don't think we're going to do it! I do hope i'm wrong.

Well said Vor-according to his "last post" this imposter is the final reason Sage left-whilst he was often very forthright & opinionated, I also found him amusing (often at your expense) but also he clearly knew the game.

I actually think overall it`s been a good weekend for us and believe we will do it.

Come back sage and get lost "sage" or is that too complex?

I have never understood racism with football fans. Plymouth have their own talented black players and a mix of Europeans as well, so why have a go at our guys? I just don't get it. Small minded idiots with such a blinkered view of life. Sad.

Errrr VOR...where are the goals going to come from now DH is suspended for two games.

As they have rarely come from him in the last 25 games I guess they will come from DS/LW/NE and maybe CJ.
Posted by: VoR, Watford on 11:41pm Sat 22 Mar 08
Granted chris, but he at least gets in there, his replacement...NE? my god, he's simply uninterested.
Too many maybes for my kind of liking....I am worried!! Get another in before 27th for christ sake!!

Some of the people on this site are such idiots! Collin if you posted at 6.00 pm then you obviously was not at the game if fact every time you post after a match it is just after the game has finished, have you invented a time portal?
Posted by: Colin, st albans on 11:47am Sun 23 Mar 08
I dont go to as many games as I used to...I am one of the people who has largely been "priced" out of the game. However I have seen enough this season to know what i'm talking about.

No win in eight games, hardly a goal scored...c'mon clappers this is hardly promotion form...in fact were it not for the lucky victories early on in the season we would be facing a relegation battle now.

This season has been all about a lack of cutting edge. King proved to be the one season wonder I suggested he was, Ellington has been a total disaster, Henderson can't hit a barn door, Collins John is a joke (would Fulham have sold a striker who was any good?) MacAnuff has no end product and Smith rarely ever find the net.

In the middle apart from Sadler we havew nothing...williamson may have scored but he is total crap...lower divsion straggler, get rid of him.

We have been a sorry excuse for a promotion outfit all season and now the slip down the league has really begun. This amateur of a manager hasn't got what it takes to fire the team to automatic promotion....dont let him tell you the paly offs represent a success...we are not little watford and we are not punching above our weight...this is an awful division filled with mediocrity and we should be doing better.

Personally there is nothing more i'd like to see than the manager leave at then end of the season...and some of his awful signings too.

Talking of '..'Imposters'..To call our forward line 'STRIKERS'.Should breach the trades dicription act..And Macnotgdenuff wants to take the pens....Jesus.

Colin, obviously you weren't at the game, I was, Lee Williamson actually played well, he never misplaced a pass nor missed a tackle. I agree about our strikers, they are not firing at the moment, but no team is actually firing at the moment in the top other than Hull. Everyone thinks that becuase we have been in the premiership recently we should be walking this division. Only exceptional teams ever have a relatively easy ride in this division, in recent memory that is Reading and Fulham. This division is enjoyable, competitive and tight because everyone CAN and DOES beat everyone else. No team can expect to win all their games. West Brom play very good football and if they go up they might stand a chance, but they are struggling to get up too...get some perspective please!

You must understand that no one can comment on a game unless you've been there well at least thats what the clappers think.Any team which hasn't won for as long as we haven't i'm afraid isnt very good, our strikers are lamentably poor DH gives 100% but hes never gonna score many goals,NE is a joke and a very expensive one at that and CJ well least said soonest got rid of.The manager should have signed a decent striker before the season started however he knew best(joke)even knowing then MK was unsettled.

Hmm is this what your going to say every season. We said exactly the same last time we went up. And that time there was a clear point. Now though we have a much bigger and stronger squad. Oh and don't forget we will spend some do'h if we do go up.
In my opinion there is only two teams that are clearly better than the others in the division.

Us and West Brom.

Don't most people say the best way to be successful in the Premiership is to go up, come back down and then go back up. Exactly what we would have done if we go up this season.
Posted by: WIZZARD on 10:10pm Sun 23 Mar 08
I agree of course we need to go up-if not you lose quality players-not that we have many-there is no point not going up.WBA are best footballing squad but think that we are potentially as good as rest & better than most but not performing to optimum level. all promoted teams will struggle very badly--we have less quality than last time.

First off, Mr Caithness of Plymouth, racism is not acceptable at any level, be that at a professional football ground, local park, classroom or workplace. We should all be above that, I guess it is something that hopefully will improve with years, much like a fine wine...but hopefully well worth the wait. As for bullying, I am quite saddened to hear Watford constantly being accused of this poor and cheap shot, I have known of other teams in this division (Charlton as one example) to be favoured with their footballing style yet their performances against Watford were indeed quite thug-ish. As for whether we deserve to be top two or six, well the table does not lie and we have been up there all season. I can only assume that the majority of fans on here do not represent the masses at Watford, as common sense says to me that we are not only a small club, but a squad that is trying to better itself, trying to achieve, looking to improve - and all of this with the backing of the board. We may get there this season, but with certain fans who seem to expect or even demand that we play a fluid, open style against so many tight and physical sides is nonsense. I do not mean to criticse fellow fans, as I genuinely belive that, in our own way we all love our own Watford FC, but sometimes it is horses for courses, and right now this is a battering league on all sides. So tight at the top, tight outside the playoffs and tight at the bottom. Like it or not, this is a great league and while there are times when the football may not always be the prettiest to watch, the effort and will is somrthing that puts many glamorous Premiership clubs to shame. That is probably why this year the FA Cup has been so magnificent. Despite the pathetic criticism from the BBC drones (Hansen and Lawrenson, awful 'pundits' who make me cringe) it says a lot for the average Championship club. Blood and guts, not always glamour, but a lot less diving, shirking and bawling at the ref. I am looking forward to coming back to dear ol' Blighty in the summer...hopefully a few regulars on here will be around for a few light ales!!

The racism issue is a great shame, especially after the way the fans supported Al Bangura in the home fixture. All I can say is that it takes a handful of mindless morons to give the game a bad name, whilst the other 90% of people are not shown as the true fans. There is no place in any sport for racism or the throwing of potentially dangerous objects on to the pitch. I hope those involved in this are banned from football across the UK for a very long time as the game does not need them.

WHILST I CERTAINLY DO NOT CONDONE THE ACTION OF A COUPLE OF MINDLESS INDIVIDUALS AS HAPPENED ON SATURDAY ,WHICH WAS AS A CONSEQUENCE OF WATFORD COACHING STAFF ASSAULTING A PLYMOUTH PLAYER BY SPRAYING WATER ON HIM. IF I DID THAT TO SOMEONE OUTSIDE MY OWN HOME THE POLICE WOULD BE AROUND QUICK ENOUGH. PERHAPS MR BOOTHROYD FROM HIS MIGHTY TOWER DISPENSE SOME CALMING WATERS WE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THE INCIDENT AT ALL.
ON REFLECTION AFTER THE MATCH I FELT A LOT OF SYMPATHY FOR WATFORD FANS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO WATCH FOOTBALL PLAYED AT 50 FEET EVERY WEEK. ONLY STOKE ARE AS BORING EVERYONE ELSE IN THE DIVISION TRIES TO PLAY FOOTBALL. I HOPE ALBION GET PROMOTED NO ONE ELSE IS GOOD ENOUGH EVEN WE LACK ENOUGH SKILL ALTHOUGH WE WORK AS A UNIT.

Good result at the weekend boys ;) Not that we had the best 90 minutes either mind!

Not quite sure I can see where Watford Football Club and the word "Glamour" are associated, unless you're referring to that bandy Chairman you had once upon a time.

Having said that if you deluded Cockney muppets believe your sh!thole of a conurbation is glamourous, that makes Plymouth the Hollywood of the south.

Come on you Greens.

whilst i do not agree with racism and the actions of those plymouth fans was deplorable i notice that aidy has been very quite on the actions and behaviour of certain players, mainly jordan stewart. before he was racially abused he was clearly seen making gestures and offering out plymouth fans,he then did this again whilst warming up on the touchline. whilst i don't condone the behaviour of the fans who racially abused him i also cannot understand how a player can act in that kind of manner towards supporters and get away with it. i would also point out that several watford players made homophobic remarks towards 1 of our players and the actions of your kit man in chucking water over that playere was also unacceptable
