DeMerit: I thought Dan's header was in

Jay DeMerit thought Dan Shittu had ended Watford's six-game drawing streak with a late towering header at Home Park yesterday (Saturday).

The barrel-chested defender looked odds on to register his tenth goal of the season when he soared above the Plymouth defence to connect with an injury-time corner from Mat Sadler.

However, Jim Paterson stuck out a leg on the line and deflected the ball to safety.

"He hit it square and it was going in," said DeMerit. "If it had been three inches higher I don't think he (Paterson) would have got his foot to it. On a good day that goes in, we win 2-1 and everybody is happy."

Did DeMerit feel it was a point gained or two dropped?

"It's hard say," said the American. "This isn't an easy place to come and the weather didn't help. So perhaps to come here and get a point is not the end of the world.

"We had a couple chances in the second half and they haven't had any, but things just aren't falling our way right now."

Watford have scored just nine goals in their last nine games and their hopes of ending their lean spell suffered another blow yesterday when Darius Henderson, the leading scorer, picked up his tenth booking of the season, earning the striker a two-match ban.

"It's not a concern but it would be nice to score more goals," said DeMerit. "They are just not going in for us right now but if we keep working hard as a unit, keep doing what we are doing then it's bound to turn for us."

Another very long journey another very frustrating draw seven draws is almost relegation form no good hiding behind stat of 12 unbeaten if you don't win many ,NO QUALITY IN TEAM just hard workers THIS is a massive week for the future of the club in my opinion ,the loan window closes this week we must get in Adam johnson as both our wingers do not create chances or score goals ,Mcanuff the worst culprit, but even the decent Tommy Smith is having a lean time now and anyway it is no good them playing well if they do not create or score goals AJ still has scored more goals than both put together !!,and as Hendo now suspended, seems to get booked every game or so, do we try to get HEIDAR HELGUSON BACK ,we must get some quality in who create and score chances NE and CJ are so very poor and unfit ,how on earth we let King go is beyond belief and has really cost us dear ,as we said it would !!! so message to messrs Simpson ,Ashton and Boothroyd it is now or never invest in the loan market and team or i fear we will fall away for a very long time, we fans are doing our bit time to show better ambition than selling our best players ,see you at Hull

Neither side deserved to win this one. Complete lack of quailty, and disgraceful behaviour from the bench. Lucky not to see further repercussion from this.

watford are a bunch of bully boys and thugs and are a disgrace to football . call that football they should be ashamed. and as for the bench in the second half i hope something is done what a total disgrace.

Caithness - you are no better yourselves. Plymouth are hardly Brazil, hard work and strong arm is your style as well. Agree bench over-reacted but the tackle was bad and he deserved to go, and no excuses for racism, which would ignite any bench!

Without DH we are going to have to try something different.
These draws may see us into the play offs but not automatic promotion.
The defence looks v.good but we all know that scoring is the problem - that's not just down to the strikers but we do not have a 20 goal man and need to address this.
Alternatives ?
NE and CJ have not yet had a joint outing.
How about Nugent ? He's still rumoured to be going out on loan.
TP scored a cracker for Preston this week !!
After Hull we must go for it. Setting aside WBA 3 wins and 3 defeats against mid/lower table teams will be more use than 6 draws.

Like we have said all year, any of the top half clubs could win this league. They are all faltering. Why else would we still be in position to go top by winning game in hand after so many draws? Whomever goes up will struggle in the relegation area but I still prefer that to another year in the 2nd division as us old boys call it.

Bizzarly I think we are actually well set to do well in the Prem if we go up - we would naturally add to the squad - but having a solid base and being tough to beat (as we are) is a recipe for success.

This period was always going to be tough - I thought if we could come through to Hull within 3 points of leaders we would be doing well ... as it is we are there with a bonus of a game in hand.

We have played well enough TO HAVE SNUCK WINS and I believe that will come.

Hopefully now Boro look safe - AJ will come back this week as a bonus.

In the last 12 games since Marlon went we have not lost and not looked like getting beaten either. We have missed 2 pens and against Preston had all the bad luck going.

An extra 2 scraped wins and we would be top with a game in hand.

Going to Plymouth etc. is not easy a nd we are getting ready for the run in with some building steam.

I think we will go up automatically - but even a play-off situation should not unsettle us as we will be hard to beat.

Have faith one and all.

I couldn't sum it up better myself.

1. We haven't lost in the league since King has gone.
2. We are still favourites to go up alongside West Brom.
3.We can play bad and still dominate games.

And any Watford fan that thinks we won't go up is wrong. Bristol City have nothing and arer only up there because of continuous spells of luck. Stoke are the worst team ive seen all season. Hull are just an average side and West brom who I think will join us in the automatic spots are on a bad run.

We're not going up?

I think we are.

Oh there is so much we can learn from plymouth! let me see there is plymouth UNI--I kid you not! second highest dropout rate after LUTON UNI!

Or the local catch phrase " I may not be clever but I can throw heavy things"

Or that devonian twist on wife swapping-SHEEP SWAPPING!

You really expect in a town of that size more than 2 surnames!

Watford, I agree-a draw @ Hull will put us in charge with our home run in to come.

What a pathetic team. Im not even sure why they want to go up to the premiership, because we are guaranteed to go down 100%.

Young, King, Bouazza & Foster were all Premiership class players, while Hendo proved to be a flop. What have CJ and NE done in the premiership? I don't know what all the fuss about us going up is. Lets get to Wembley in the final. That should be enough.

What a season! I tried the prediction calculation on the BBC, trying to be realistic rather than blinkered. I had us to draw at Hull, lose at WBA and draw at home to Palace, but win our remaining games. Obviously this is all ficticious stuff, but with other top six teams still to play each other, there are so many possibilities. I don't like our recent run of draws, but I do like where we are. In the past weeks we have faced 1st, 2nd, 6th and now 3rd - I know we haven't won, but we haven't lost. Most of all I like the spirit of this team, and that can and will go a very long way in the next few weeks. C'mon....

Well if we do not go up we will be competing in a much stronger division next year with only 1 season to make it before parachute money stops making us reduce squad size, etc.

Very hard to see your reasoning mate.

How the happy clappers rationalise.

In the premiership we werent that easy to beat but we couldnt win.

This year we are hard to beat but are now struggling to win but it bodes well for a run in the premiership.

We need to go up to get our hands on the loot...but dont expect to stay up but the more often we go up the stronger the team will get and we might just then find ourselves good enough to stay up for more than one season.

But either way its a great deal more exciting than going nowhere cept the lower half of the championship which was how it was four years ago!

So carry on dreaming happy clappers but at the end of the day we are not a large club and I do think we are doing quite well
