Town centre partnership to wind up

Watford Town Centre Partnership is to cease trading.

The news was broken by chairman of the partnership, Roger Gagan, in a letter to members.

Roger said: "The WTCP Board of Directors reviewed the operation and status of the WTCP in a recent meeting, and unanimously voted to cease trading.

"Although the partnership has achieved a great deal in Watford with membership growing over the past 3 years, the Directors felt that as the WTCP was one of many organisations operating in the town centre, it duplicated many other organisations' offerings".

The WTCP plans to cease trading as a company on April 30 and the Town Centre Manager's post, which was directly linked to the WTCP company, will also cease.

Heather Britton said: "I've had a great time building up a fantastic range of events and helping to make improvements to the town centre, and I'm very sad to be leaving my role as town centre manager.

"However, as a Watford resident I look forward to seeing how future plans for the town centre develop.

"It's been my pleasure to have met lots of wonderful people during my time as town centre manager here, it's been great working with them to make Watford a really great place to be."

For those members of the Watford Business Against Crime (WBAC) scheme, access to radios and shared information will continue under a new scheme being set up by the Watford & West Herts Chamber of Commerce, and WBAC members will be updated of progress by the end of April.

The majority of the activities undertaken by the WTCP will be handed over to other town organisations, including Watford Borough Council, The Town Centre Chaplaincy, Watford & West Herts Chamber of Commerce.

To be honest...who knew this organisation existed?
Probably just another Quango Organisation set up by the Mayor in a Jobs for the Boys scheme......

Jobs for the boys? Looked like it was one job and for a woman... But it was registered with companies house in May 2001, a whole year before Dorothy was first elected.

Many other towns and cities that are moving away from the drinking culture that dominates Watford's night time economy by having good town centre managers working with local businesses to offer alternatives and bring in a wider choice of evening leisure activities.

I do hope this isn't a question of no one now doing that role, because that would be a mistake. Since it says Watford council will take over some of the role, I would hope for a sign of civic leadership soon!

This is just another instance of a Downhill Dorothy cop-out. This "partnership" has no shareholders viz:

Private, limited by guarantee, no share capital, section 30 of the Companies Act

The first question is who are the guarantors? The secons is htat if this concept is to continue who's funding it and with what purpose? Is this just another "Watford Fib Dems have lost the plot?"

Hey Man, I'm new to Watford, but Could you tellme if there is some kind of political strife within the town hall? Also, Have you thought of a career in politics? You'd get my vote mate! Or if you didn't want the limelight, Spin Doctors earn a very, very good earner! if you know what I mean......
No - you just get a few people on here who have an opinion on everything, but can't get elected themselves!!!

What a shame this management team are ceasing, is it because the traders dont want to pay towards it anymore cos of tough times ahead?. Shame cos the TCP seemed to do so much - the french markets, the christmas lights celebrations, getting the traders together to discuss improvments.
