Cabbie's ear bitten in attack

A taxi driver from Watford was threatened with a knife and had his ear bitten after he drove two men to Hemel Hempstead, early on Tuesday.

The two men ordered the cab from Shady Lane, in Watford, at around 12.15am.

When they arrived in Rayburn Road, Hemel, the first man sitting in the front passenger seat left the vehicle to collect a Ford Escort van parked nearby.

The second man, sat behind the driver, held a kitchen knife to his throat and bit his ear before demanding money.

The pair became tangled in a struggle before the first man returned and kicked the driver, a 44-year-old man from Watford. Both men then drove off in their van with no cash.

The first man is described as white European, of slim build, aged about 39, with short black hair. He is 5ft 5in tall, with bulging eyes and was wearing a black bomber jacket with blue jeans.

The second offender is described as white European, of medium build, aged 40 to 45 with cropped hair. He is about 6ft tall.

Sergeant Laurie Rush said: "This was a particularly nasty incident and I would really like to see the two individuals responsible taken off our streets and brought to justice.

"I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the van parked on Rayburn Road that the two offenders used. It was light-coloured and possibly had writing on the doors or bonnet."

Anyone with information should telephone Sgt Rush on 0845 3300222, quoting reference D1/08/2391. Alternatively, telephone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Shady Lane... police station. I bet they had just come out of the police station. Come on, there's nothing else on Shady Lane. How about a little detective work here??
