Hornets' inspiring lesson
Watford FC players Dan Shittu and Mat Sadler are interviewed by local kids for Princes Trust
Watford FC players Dan Shittu and Mat Sadler are interviewed by local kids for Princes Trust

Players from Watford Football Club gave an inspirational talk to young people yesterday, answering questions and giving advice on careers, inspirations and dreams.

Dan Shittu and Mat Sadler spoke to the Prince's Trust group at the Centre Point Community Centre, Raphael Drive, Watford, set up to change the lives of unemployed 16 to 25 year-olds.

The group of 11 spoke about the activities they have been taking part in on a 12 week course, including two week work placements in schools and centres for mentally and physically disabled people.

Shittu said: "You must have felt like nobody would take you and that you wouldn't get anywhere and still you tried hard and everybody got a placement. That's amazing.

"A lot of people wouldn't have bothered or would have given up but you kept going. That's what's important. You didn't shun away from it.

"The only reason people don't get where they want is because they don't try and you guys tried."

The group had an opportunity to ask questions about the lives of the two professional footballers, asking about barriers they have had to overcome, how they deal with personality clashes in the team and how they coped with fame.

Both players listed long term injuries as a problem they had to deal with and spoke of the importance of team work, persistence and good social skills.

Team Leader at The Prince's Trust Group, Caroline Noble, said events such as the vist helped the group have a 70% success rate, with many people going on to find their dream career or get back into education.

For more information about the group, which is taking on new people in April, telephone Caroline on 07977927193.
