Residents can claim a free bag of compost today in a promotion organised by Watford Borough Council in support of Compost Awareness Week.
Taking place in the Bill Everett Community Centre car park from 10am, Watford residents will be able to take away one large bag of 10mm compost, made out of green waste.
There will also be the opportunity to talk to Hertfordshire's composting advisor, and ask him any questions you might have about composting at home.
More than a half of the contents of an average UK household bin can be home composted, not to mention all the garden waste that can be added to a compost bin.
Throughout 2008 Watford residents will be able to buy a 220 litre compost bin for £14, a 330 litre bin for £18 or the 250 litre KOMP compost bin for £35.
The three varieties of bins will be on display along with a range of accessories.

Not even the Monty Python gang would have come up with a line like that!
And do you think whoever this person is who is the "Composting adviser" admits to being such at dinner parties? Amongst all those lawyers, bankers, accountants, etc, does he/she casually mention over the coffee and brandy "Well, actually, I'm a comnposting adviser"?
You couldn't make it up, could you? Do local council bureaucrats ever realise how foolish they make themselves seem?
