Lloyd gets Saxons nod

Nick Lloyd, the Saracens prop eligible to play for both England and Scotland, looks to have committed to his country of birth after being named in the Saxons Churchill Cup squad today.

The 31-year-old loosehead enjoyed his fourth and best season with Sarries last campaign and kept former England man Kevin Yates out of the first team for long spells.

He recently signed a new deal to stay at Saracens and now looks like finally achieving international recognition after going close with Scotland, for whom he qualifies through his Scottish grandmother.

Lloyd was a regular in Scotland's training squads under Aussie coach Matt Williams, but all that ended when Frank Hadden succeeded him in September 2005.

The prop then forced his way into the Scotland A squad for their 2006 Churchill Cup, only for a broken foot suffered in Richard Hill's testimonial to rob him of the chance.

However, there was no place in the Churchill Cup squad for Sarries Player of the Season Richard Haughton, a decision that is sure to provoke outrage from the club's fans.
