Near miss leads to driving ban

11:58am Tuesday 13th May 2008

A motorist who overtook a car and almost had a head-on collision with police was found to be twice over the drink drive limit.

Joslin Ashley, 21, who has no previous convictions, was stopped by police in his red Seat Ibiza driving home after a night out in Watford on Wednesday, April 23.

At around midnight Ashley was seen overtaking a vehicle as he approached a mini-roundabout. A police car travelling the other way had to swerve to avoid a head on collision and Ashley was stopped shortly after in Norfolk Avenue.

In interview he admitted drinking four pints of lager, but believed he was alright to drive.

The machine operator for a print company pleaded guilty to drink driving and careless driving and was banned for 21 months and ordered to pay £402 in fines and costs.
