Nineteen restaurants, take-aways, and cafés in Bushey have poor hygiene conditions according to a newly published council report.

The Scores on the Doors document, the result of a year of inspections by health and safety officers from Hertsmere Borough Council, rates businesses where food is made or sold according to a five star system.

Of the 49 places inspected in Bushey, 19 were given no stars, identifying them as having "poor hygiene conditions and some major non-complience with food legislation."

None of the village's businesses were given the highest rating and only 11 were rated higher than satisfactory.

The highest award in the area went to Sidekicks, the café in the Bushey Grove Leisure Centre, Aldenham Road, which was named "very good" in the report.

Inspected businesses will be given certificates giving their rating which they can display for customers.

Businesses given no stars in the report are not issued with a certificate.

In Bushey, these "poor hygiene" businesses were: Blue Check, Bushey Spice, Chikayan, Deli Café Heath, Eat Well Takeaway, Elsums, India Garden, Khana Exclusive Indian Takeaway, Micahels Fish Bar, Ocean City, Old Orleans, Picnics, Relish Spice, Rice Bowl Chinese Takeaway, Sonargaon Restaurant, Spar, The Catch Toby Carvery and The Early Bird.

If it's OK to name businesses in Bushey that fail to meet hygiene standards, why isn't it OK to name businesses in Watford that sell acohol to a 15 yearold?

These places should be closed until they improve the conditions!

Yep Igloo, same newspaper but TWO different sources of information. You can only accurately print what you are told and it would appear that WBC are quite happy to protect those that infringe alcohol laws. On the other hand Hertsmere seem comfortable with a name and shame policy. I much perfer the Hertsmere approch.

If you look at my post regarding the sale of alcohol to a 15 year old I believe that I make my position is very clear. If the public are given the information regarding which businesses are breaking the law we can get together a legal petition to revoke their liquor licences. Either the WO know which business they are and are not publishing or Watford Council are not divulging the information; or more likely is this because Downhill Dorothy regards the information as politically sensative in the same way that information about the recent arrest of a Lib Dem Councillor for assault verging on ABH was withheld?
Perhaps the WO should be more forthright in demanding complete information - after all the people elected to Watford Council are public (our) servants.

I don't know. Why not ask Hertfordshire County Council's Trading Standards, who were responsible for the test purchases and issued the press release?

Oh maybe because it's more politically convenient to blame Watford Council?

Obviously Louise hasn't lived in Watford for very long. Under the last administration Council Officers did this kind of mystery shopping and prosecuted law breakers. Now this council hands out liquor licences willy nilly and sits back waiting for Trading standards to catch law breakers. Watford Council know who these lawbreakers are and are failing to publish their names - that's a POLITICAL decision in case you hadn't realised just as it was a POLITICAL decision to hush up the arrest of a Lib Demn Councillor on assault charges! Get real Louise take your blinkers off.

Igloo, sorry to disagree, but it is HCCs Trading Standards that prosecute off-licenses for breaches, so the press statement came from Herts County Council.

However, Watford councils Licensing Committee should ask for this info, and they could decide to call a hearing on each individual license, which would be held in public. Given the info came out a week ago, give em another couple of weeks to get off their backsides. If they dont after that, then its fair to call them crap!

This is what 60% of Bushey High Street named and shamed ... lol

Having purchesed from or eaten in most of these places I would love to know what the checks entail before going crazy.

I would like to say I am shocked at some of the restaurants named but then again.....I hope this is a welcome wake up call to the establishments in question.
