Crews at Watford ambulance station were boosted when four student paramedics took to the roads this week.

After completing a 13-week course, the student paramedics have joined the ambulance station and will now work with experienced staff for the next 12 months before they become fully qualified.

To mark the end of their course, which included study of subjects including human anatomy and physiology, patient assessment, trauma management and blue light driving, the group were treated to a special presentation.

Course director Fred Revell said: "The students were subjected to non-stop medical and trauma scenarios, while utilising and demonstrating equipment."

Rob Ashford, chief operating officer for Beds and Herts Ambulance and Paramedic Service presented students with certificates and thanked them and the staff for their efforts.

BHAPS Prayer

As I perform my duties Lord.
Whatever be the call.
Help to guide and keep me safe
From danger big and small.
I want to serve and do my best,
No matter what the scene.
I pledge to keep my skills refined,
My judgment quick and keen.
This calling to give of myself,
Most do not understand.
But I stand ready all the time,
To help my fellow man.
To have the chance to help a child,
Restore his laugh with glee.
A word of thanks I may not hear,
But knowing is enough for me.
The praise of men is fine for some
But I feel truly blessed,
That you, Oh Lord have chosen me
To serve in BHAPS
