More than 100 new homes are to be built on the former Watford Springs site after a planning committee last night granted permission for builders to move in.

Most of the members of Watford Borough Council's planning committee raised issues with the large project. However, only Councillor Steve Rackett voted against the application.

The new development will include 129 residential homes, housed in three, four and five storey buildings.

Developers Taylor Wimpey will build 28 one bedroom flats, 81 two bedroom flats and 20 four bedroom houses.

A total of 39 of the new homes, or 30 per cent, will be made available as affordable housing.

A new access road will be constructed from the Lower High Street alongside Watford Museum.

The application was originally received in October 2007 but has undergone several revisions and required a further consultation with local residents.

The agreement should read 38% will be made available to first time buyers!

Question how many parking spaces have been allocated?

How many of the affordable homes will be among the 20 4 bed family homes - I bet none - the affordable homes will be a block of flats backed onto the railway cutting!
