A motorist is fighting for his life in hospital after an early morning crash on the M1 motorway.
The driver of a white Mercedes Sprinter van sustained "life-threatening" injuries after colliding with another vehicle on the southbound carriageway at around 5.40am between junctions five and four.
He is currently being treated at Watford General Hospital after being cut from the wreckage by firefighters.
Police say a second vehicle, believed to have collided with the van, failed to stop at the scene and are appealing for information.
Witnesses are asked to call police on 0845 33 00 22 The southbound carriageway remains closed. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
