Teacher Linda Billingham has been named as a finalist in the East of England 2008 Teaching Awards.

Linda, who has been a German teacher at Parmiter's School for 27 years, has been nominated for the award for The Ted Wragg lifetime achievement award.

The regional finals of the competition will be held in Norwich on June 12.

The winners will go through to the national final in October which will be screened on the BBC to highlight excellence in education.

"I'm very excited to be in the area final and it's a great honour for the whole school as well as for me," she said.

Linda, who is also pastoral deputy head, plans to retire this summer after 36 years in teaching.

"I've enjoyed the interaction with staff and students and this is a great way to round off such an enjoyable career," she said.

I think you must be thinking of Lynda Bellingham, who played the mum in the Oxo adverts and appeared in TV sitcoms!
There is, however, a serious point here in
asking why people who have been well paid for doing a job they were supposed to do should expect awards for it as well. Isn't the East of England 2008 Teaching Awards pure Monty Python? And what on earth does Watford have to do with the East of England anyway?
