Residents have described the moment armed police raided a home in a west Watford street early this morning.

At around 6.20am, between four and six armed policeman, backed up by several uniformed officers, used a battering ram to gain access to a property in Chester Road.

Ruth Nicholson said: "I heard a smashing sound of glass. It was huge. I could hear it and my windows were not open."

Mrs Nicholson said two police cars and a van were parked in the middle of the road, while officers went between the house and the vehicles until around 9.30am, when they left.

Norma Moore was sitting in her front room when she spotted the police vehicles drive along Chester Road prior to the raid.

Mrs Moore said: "All of a sudden, the armed police went running in. There was a big bang and a slam of a door and they were shouting 'Police'.

"They were in there for quite a while."

Despite the presence of armed police in a residential area of Watford, Hertfordshire Police have yet to comment on the raid, although it is thought drugs may have been involved.

God this is distressing, more cannon fodder for magistrates to tap with a powder puff sentence or tickle with feathers, and now I've got to endure tango Phil and gobby Gary in the playoff final, wonder if a magistrate will section me for being a nutter, probably get life.
