Hundreds of children have put colouring pens to paper to create a seasonal Christmas card for Hertsmere Borough Council.

The council has received more than 400 colourful festive entries from pupils at primary and junior schools across the borough, including Bushey Manor School, Bushey Heath School, Bournehall Primary School, Hartsbourne Primary School and St Margaret’s Preparatory School.

Hertsmere Mayor, Councillor Pat Strack, judged the entries on Monday.

The first prize winner will be used as the council’s corporate Christmas card and be sent electronically to partner agencies.

Councillor Strack said: "I am really pleased so many schools took the opportunity to take part in this year’s Christmas card competition - the seventh year we have run the competition.

"I was absolutely bowled over by the quality and range of designs. We have had some really imaginative entries.

"It was really difficult choosing a winner, but I want to thank everyone who has taken part."

At the moment, the identity of the first, second and third prize winners is being kept a closely guarded secret by organisers.

But next month, all three winners will meet with the mayor at a presentation ceremony at the Civic Offices in Borehamwood. On November 29, they will also be presented with a certificate and gift voucher each.
