Police & Crime Commissioner election: Marion Mason - UKIP Police & Crime Commissioner election: Marion Mason - UKIP

MARION Mason became the final candidate to add her name to the list when she was officially accepted the day entries for the position closed.

The Stevenage-based former UKIP councillor who runs a care home in the town says she wants to make the county’s streets a safer place to be by increasing the number of officers walking the beat rather than patrolling in cars.

She is also keen to ensure back office functions continue to be undertaken by the police, rather than by a private company.

She said: “I want safer streets, I want the ability to walk safely in the streets with children and grandchildren and I do want to see the presence of police on the beat.

“I would like to see more police than we have at the moment, more police out walking along rather than screaming along in fast cars.

“I don’t support outsourcing sections of the police, a little bit of strategic thinking would work.”

Giving her opinion on the controversial police proposal to prevent pubs and clubs selling alcohol, Ms Mason said she would support the move but wanted greater consultation to be carried out.

She said: “You do have an intensity of night clubs in a small area and I know that causes some of the crime figures and causes disruption to the people of Watford.

“I can understand the council’s reservations because the nightclub area you have got here is business but unfortunately you have had a high level of crime and it’s mostly people from outside.

“We need to think about what the time element could be.”

What a terrible interview, her body language just shouts "I'm not up to the job".

I had hoped UKIP might take this election seriously but their candidate just looks weak.

I would say she is marginally better than Labour, a bit worse than the Liberal and none of them a patch on the Conservative.

I promised myself I would not vote Conservative until the party returns to its supporters and does something about the EU, Foreign bribes/Aid and windfarms, but as this is not a proper election and we need someone decent, there is no choice but to vote Tory, the only serious candidate.

A shame, but there you go.

Reg,
Previously you wrote; “if you're going to vote, for goodness sake make a decent choice based on the person and what they stand for. Voting along party lines would just be irresponsible for such an important job. An idiot could do a lot of damage”.

“An idiot could do a lot of damage”. You won’t be voting UKIP then?

"she wants to make the county’s streets a safer place to be by increasing the number of officers walking the beat rather than patrolling in cars".

Wow, what a naive thing to say.
They can't hire more officers due to budget cuts, and they have removed all back-office roles.

If they take officers out of cars and put them on foot, how will they responde to 999 calls.

"your house is being burgled?
Oh he's there with a knife?
Don't worry, and officer is on the number 8 bus on his way to you".

The simple fact is officer may look lovely walking the beat, taking cups of tea, but they are more use covering thearea of watford in vehicles responding to calls.
