A by-election for a vacant Watford Borough Council seat takes place next week.

Residents in Central Ward will head to the polls on Thursday to vote for one of five candidates.

The Watford Observer spoke to 52-year-old Su Murray, who represents the Green Party.

Why should the people of central Watford vote for you?

I am concerned with the environment and the community and can give them a different angle.

What are your three priorities for the area?

Strengthening community links, people feel they don’t really know each other, if we’re working together we can support each other. I haven’t decided on another two.

What have you found to be the biggest concern of residents the central ward, and what you do to improve the situation?

Street lights, we could have LED which would save quite a bit of money. There’s also a lot of concern about antisocial behaviour, the Greens are pressing on this quite a bit.

What is your position on the town centre night life? Would you support an early morning alcohol restriction order of the police were to request one?

If the police feel it would assist them then yes, the town centre needs to be more diverse, not just pubs and clubs.

What are your views on the council’s plans to move the market from Charter Place?

I’m not happy, I feel they’re shunting them away and I don’t think they’re going to get the trade through there.

Are you in favour of the council’s plans for a £4.3m revamp of The Parade?

My initial thought was ‘here we go again’. Why do we keep concentrating on the parade and pond areas rather than Queens Road and The Broadway? There are various areas all over Watford that could do with funding.
