Four out of the five political candidates running in the Watford Central by-election have now signed up to Monday night's hustings.

The Conservative candidate Binita Mehta confirmed she will be attending the event at the Centre Point Community Centre, in Raphael Drive, which starts at 7.30pm.

The candidate had initially said she could not make the debate, which has been organised by the Radlett Road Community Association, due to work commitments, but has now said she can attend.

She will line up against candidates from the Liberal Democrats, Greens and UKIP to debate the issues in the area ahead of Thursday's vote.

The election was called after Liberal Democrat councillor Chris Leslie resigned his Watford Borough Council seat to take a job in the midlands.

At present Labour is the only party whose candidate will not be attending.

This week the Watford Labour Party chairman, Mike Jackson, said he felt the event had been politically compromised, as Liberal Democrat councillors were involved in discussions before his party was invited and thus would not be taking part.
