Plans to expand a primary school in Rickmansworth, to help plug a shortfall of pupil places, will be discussed by the county council today.

The proposals detail how Shepherd Primary School, in Shepherd’s Lane, could be expanded to take on another 30 pupils.

A forecast shows that by the 2013/14 intake, the area of Rickmansworth will be facing a deficit of 16 primary places.

The council’s cabinet will meet this afternoon to consider the response from a public consultation.

Three objections were received, relating to extra traffic and parking problems which could result as part of the expansion.

The cabinet will have to decide whether to reject, modify, or approve the plans, in light of the responses.

Education bosses have recommended councillors approve the proposal to enlarge Shepherd Primary School by one form of entry from September 1, 2013.
