Parmiter’s students took on the worldwide musical hit Les Miserables, based on Victor Hugo’s 19th Century novel, for their annual production on Thursday, Friday and Saturday last week.

A cast of 43 including dancers brought the tragic tale, told exclusively through song, to life in spectacular style during the two and a half hour show.

The show was co-directed by drama teacher Lewis Froy and English teacher Gemma Absalom, both former students of Parmiter’s and veterans of its drama scene.

Mr Froy said: "Les Miserables is big show in terms of length and the demands it places on the talents of students, especially as the entire story is told through song.

"I can honestly say that our cast rose to the challenge and maintained the high standard of student productions at Parmiter’s.

"Having performed here myself as a student it was great to be on the other side of the fence and direct; it certainly took me back to some very happy memories."

Ms Absalom added: "I know what talking part in a production can do for the individual student and the impact it can have on the life of the school and this production of Les Miserables delivered on both counts."

A collection was taken for the Peace Hospice at the end of the show.
