No offence to PCSOs, but wouldn't it be wiser to have people with full police training and experience to answer questions and listen to concerns?

People perhaps who could make policy descisions or give assurances based on what they might hear at such a forum?

What is that new commisioner fella for if not to attend such meetings?

Or seeing as the PCSO's will have more knowledge of the local area and local issues and this meeting is to discuss precisely those things they are the perfect people to hold this meeting

I don't see how. PCSOs don't decide how many coppers are on the beat, or which areas need special attention.
In fact, the PCSOs in Bushey have to catch the bus in from Borehamwood in order to patrol. so if the busses aren't running, we have no police prescence.

This is partly why crime is so high in Bushey. How is explaining any of that to a PCSO going to change it? They would probably just simply agree and shrug.

PCSO's dont decide how many coppers are on the beat, neither do coppers who you originally thought should attend.

Yes policy makers too, but I would imagine at the very least what is discussed at this meeting would be fed onto the PCC or who ever.

The point is the PCSO's will have the local knowledge even if they have to catch a bus, they'll known the local issues, they'll know the local scroatsm, they'll know the local busy bodies and so on and they will be best equiped to give answers.

Or would you rather a suit who doesnt know the area, the people the issues sitting there and saying 'i dont know' to every question?

I'd rather a suit who DOES know the area, and what an excellent opportunity this would have been to learn it.
The choice between a suit saying 'I don't know' and a PCSO saying 'I know but can't do anything about it' isn't much of a choice.

If we have to have this elected police commisioner, surely this is exactly the sort of place he should be.
