Dorothy Thornhill opens new health and fitness trail in Colne River Park

An innovative health and fitness trail has been opened by the mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill.

The need for the Colne River Park's health and fitness trail arose from a survey conducted online in the summer of 2012.

The trail consists of nine pieces of equipment located in Waterfields Recreation Ground, Radlett Road Recreation Ground and Knutsford Playing Fields adjacent to the river.

How many people will actually use it?

More importantly, how long will it be until it is (unfortunately) vandalised?

Only seen one person using it in Radlett Road Recreation Ground, though the footballers young & old doesn't seem to use them either. But the one in Knutsford Playing Fields is used, a few times.

If so few people use it, will it really become a target for vandals? Even if it is vandalised, will it really have an impact when its use is likely to be so low?

Good old Dotty, puts her name to everything.

It looks like it is a solution to a problem we don't have.

No-one has ever said to me "I wish we had an outdoor Gym in Watford. It doesn't matter where it is, I will travel to it and use it". To be honest, no-one's even said the first bit.

Maybe that's why this expensive gym is not used.

Money to burn, Dotty? Why not build a bridge over the pond? What's that? "already in planning". What about a second one then, so you can get back again. You could set up a pond one-way system. Politicians like that sort of stuff, don't they?

I wish I had that sort of money to waste.

Be fair MarsLander, I don't think it is in planning yet. There are endless Feasability Studies, Consultations, Forums, Invitations to Tender and Public Meetings to waste money on before actually planning the wretched thing.

Yes, but look at the imbalance of political representation on the Development Control Committee http://watford.moder

LSC, do you really think there will be real political opposition to what the Lib Dem and Dotty want to implement? Feasability Studies can be manipulated depending on the parameters used and who leads on them, consultation can ask the wrong questions or seek answers that serve the drafter's purpose, public meetings have limited time and agendas and might not be widely publicised. Need I go on?
