Sleep rough for YMCA Watford and Watford New Hope Trust, and raise awareness of homelessness.

Sleep rough for Watford charities Sleep rough for Watford charities

Residents are being encouraged to spend a night on the streets of Watford to raise awareness of homelessness.

YMCA Watford and Watford New Hope Trust are running the town’s sleep out to raise funds for homeless charities, where people get the chance to experience what it is like to sleep rough.

Both organisations house 300 people a night that would otherwise be homeless.

The sleepout will take place at 9pm on Friday, February 1 in Charter Place, outside the YMCA building in the town centre until the next morning at 7am.

For more information contact 01923 227 132 or email events@wnht.org.

Will WNHT be spending the money raised on art made from rubbish and initiatives to dream up a better Watford, or on the homeless?

Until that question is satisfactorily answered I will not consider joining their sleepout nor donating to them.

Is there another homeless charity in Watford I can donate to in the absence of WNHT? One who will spend the donations wisely in the spirit of why it was donated.

I would like to help, but I do not believe this charity is sufficiently focussed on what it is there to do.

Perhaps it has a poor marketing strategy. Whether it is sufficiently focused on the homeless would require detailed analysis of its accounts.

Who's going to bother doing that? I've better things to do with my time.

I have seen them doing stuff that's nothing to do with why I donated to them. They have therefore squandered the money I donated. I care about who I donate to and for what purpose.

I won't donate to them again.

I'm not going to defend them further, since I donate elsewhere anyway.

I just found the press release on their website about the garden thing and beauty at the bins and it says there that these schemes are funded by the Social Action Fund. It sounds like it's one of those government projects that Watford New Hope Trust are just running for them - not something that general donators are funding.
