Watford High Street stars in new TV drama, "My Mad, Fat Teenage Diary", on E4 last night

Watford’s High Street was thrown under the TV spotlight - admittedly only briefly - during the first episode of a new Channel Four series.

A film crew and actors were spotted shooting a scene for "My Mad, Fat Teenage Diary" back in July, and the episode was aired last night at 10pm on E4.

The drama series is about an overweight teenager in mid 90s Lincolnshire and during the hour long episode, Sharon Rooney, who stars as the heroine Rae, is forced to evacuate a clothes shop near Burger King in Watford High Street while wearing a bikini.

The 16-year-old has only just been released from a psychiatric unit, where she lived for four months, and is desperately trying to fit in with her old friend Chloe and her new gang.

The programme was adapted from the real-life diary of Rachel 'Rae' Earl, and the book of the same name.

Lordy. I expect this will be evidence that the high street is 2 decades out of date and therefore needs a £gaziliion face lift to change the colour of the chewing gum on the pavement.

The "Drama" is like Skins meets Inbetweeners, minus most of the characters, good script writers, plus a female equivalent of Meatloaf at his peak.

At least with the Big Bang Theory, it is described as "come for the body, stay for the brains". This drama is more like 60 minutes of depression and could be described as "come once, switch channels and never come back." Perhaps it can be re-titled "Intu Madness".
