Tree recycling: Hertsmere gets off to a green start with 193 Christmas trees recycled

A bumper crop of Christmas trees were shredded and recycled in Hertsmere this year.

Almost 200 trees were taken to locations in Radlett, Bushey, Borehamwood and Potters Bar over four days at the beginning of the month.

The 193 trees were shredded on site and taken away to be made into mulch which will be used on the borough’s shrub beds.

Councillor Jean Heywood, portfolio holder for the environment, said: "Thanks to everyone who helped to get 2013 off to such a ‘green’ start by recycling their trees in this way. Your trees will help our parks to stay in tip-top condition."

This is so typical of how 'green' works in this day and age.
'Aren't we wonderful and green, we recycled our tree, the planet is saved, hurrah for us!'

If you want to be truly green, DON'T CUT THE ******* TREES DOWN IN THE FIRST PLACE JUST TO MAKE YOUR FRONT ROOM LOOK PRETTY FOR 3 WEEKS.

Prevention is better than cure LSC I agree.

But lets face it, its going to happen, its NOT the 'green' lobbies fault it happens and well done to the council in finding a way of making use of a material which would just end up rotting uselessly elsewere

I concede to you on that point Tony.
But I do get cross with the constant self-congratulations of the green lobby when they only deal with the effect and never the cause.

Not the lobby, no. But they do claim to do these green things knowing full well they aren't particularly.
It is time to get some action from the top. The postman (not a flyer deliverer) frequently delivers an envelope to my house, containing a letter from Virgin Media inviting me to sign up to Virgin Media. On the back of the envelope it reminds me to recycle it all like a good boy.
I'M ALREADY WITH VIRGIN MEDIA!
You couldn't make up a more pointless waste of rescources if you tried!

I could of course move from VM on principal, but that wouldn't stop the letters.
