Local parish says goodbye to associate minister, Caroline Burnett

The parish of Bushey is waving farewell to its associate minister, before welcoming two new additions to the team this year.

Caroline Burnett, associate minister in the parish of Bushey, has been appointed priest-in-charge of Compton, Shackleford and Peper Harow in the Diocese of Guildford.

She has served in Bushey since 2009, moving from All Saints in Leavesden.

Her last service will be at 11am on Sunday March 10, followed by a farewell lunch in St James’ Church House.

Reverend Mary Kingsley has been appointed as non-stipendiary assistant priest of the benefice of Bushey. She is currently assistant curate of All Saints, Croxley Green, and will be joining the parish this summer.

She comes from a long and varied career in education, mainly working with children with visual impairment.

Ms Kingsley enjoys cryptic crosswords, jigsaws, reading, playing bridge and bell ringing, and her first service will take place on Sunday, September 1 at 6pm in St. Paul’s Church.

The reverend Dave Poultney has been appointed as full-time pioneer minister and associate vicar of the Benefice of Bushey.

Mr Poultney is currently the assistant curate of St Hugh’s in Luton, and will join the parish soon after Easter.

I confess I didn't know what a Benefice was, so I looked it up.
I still don't know what a Benefice is.

But for those also curious, it is:

"the right of patronage in the case of parochial benefices ("the advowson"), being in fact the right, which was originally vested in the donor of the temporalities, to present to his bishop a clerk to be admitted, if found fit by the bishop, to the office to which those temporalities are annexed. In other words the gift of the glebe which can be called a rectory manor or church furlong was only ever granted subject to receiving an incorporeal hereditament (inheritable and transferable right) for the original donor."

So that clears that up then.
