Dacorum Borough Council asks for residents' views on Housing Allocations Policy

Residents in the borough of Dacorum are being given the chance to have their say on housing priorities in their area.

Dacorum Borough Council is asking for residents' view on proposed changes to its Housing Allocations Policy, which sets out how applications for council and housing association homes in Dacorum are prioritised.

The changes aim to meet local housing needs in the area and to ensure applicants are given priority for homes that are most appropriate to their needs. The proposals include some new qualifying conditions to join the housing register, which make it easier for someone to move from a larger family house into a smaller one once their family has left.

Residents can see the draft policy and give feedback on www.dacorum.gov.uk/consultation or get a copy of the consultation documents by contacting customer services on 01442 228000.

The closing date for comments and feedback is Friday, March 8 at 12 noon.

This is the changing face of an over crowded Britain, i remember my grandparents brought up their family in a council house, they moved in after the war when the house was first built and never moved, this was common place as home ownership wasnt the be all and end all back then, The house hosted many a happy occasion for family events, birthdays, christmas, engagements, get togethers etc. my Grandad cherished the front and back gardens as small as they were, the grass was immaculate the edges neatly cut, hours and hours he spent tending that garden, this was over a period of 60 years but as soon as my nan died the council were on the case for my Grandad to be moved out, he was perfectly fit and like my nan wanted to die in that house that house where so many happy memories were, luckily for him they couldnt force him to leave, as soon as he died a large asian family were moved in, i hope they can create as many happy memories for themseleves in that house as my family did (and look after that garden) but what iam saying is a house is always more than a house if you buy or rent its a HOME and the authorities shouldnt be forcing people out or changing the law to make it easier to force people out (like what they are doing with the spare bedroom tax) so think people before accepting any new changes

Great memories for you. But times have moved on. And things are not as they were. What about the people who meet, get married or live together, have children, bring them up in best way they know how, rented or mortgaged and STRUGGLE. food, rent, mortgage, utility increases, WHERE IS THEIR RESPITE, THEY DO ALL THEY CAN TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILY, council, government funding CANNOT BE BACKBONE TO SUPPORT - moving on our kids grow, need support in education and university etc, and our parents may need help it is a tough time right now and NO ONE SHOULD ASSUME THE STATE CAN SUPPORT - YOU REAP WHAT YOY SOW
