Four arrested following immigration raids in Buon Cibo and the Whip and Collar, Rickmansworth

Immigration officers raided two Rickmansworth eateries on Thursday (January 31) and arrested four members of staff in relation to visa offences.

Staff from UK Border Agency visited Buon Cibo Restaurant in Station Road at 1.30pm and the Whip and Collar pub in Uxbridge Road at 4.45pm.

At Buon Cibo two Brazilian men, aged 34 and 31, were alleged to have overstayed their visas and were taken into detention.

At the Whip and Collar a 31-year-old man found in the rear store room wearing chefs’ whites was identified by officers as a 31-year-old visa overstayer from Uzbekistan.

A 25-year-old man from Uzbekistan, found asleep in the accommodation above the pub, was also identified as an overstayer.

Both men were taken into custody pending deportation to their home country.

Both businesses now face potential fines for employing illegal workers. Buon Cibo could be fined as much as £20,000 and the Whip and Collar as much as £10,000 if they cannot demonstrate that appropriate pre-employment checks were carried out.

UK Border Agency officer, Emma Engutsamy said: "The message for those who are living and working in the UK illegally is clear - we will track you down and remove you from the country.

"Raids like this are carried out regularly and we want offenders to be in no doubt that the net is closing in."

Excellent news! For once the UK Border Agency is doing its job in rooting out illegal immigrants.

More power to their elbow.

The UKBA is not fit for purpose. It has a backlog of thousands of cases and something has to be done to clear the huge back log.

Credit where credit is due - good work by the agency! I will not be visiting either of those eateries anymore.
Plenty of unemployed here that the tight gits could have taken on!

Dont eat at these places again. If eveyone stops using these businesses then they go bust leaving legal compliant companies with legal workers (ie not illlegal immigrants)

Is the UKBA not fit for purpose? Or is it like so many other agencies that they dont have the resources to tackle the problem immediately and properly?

This sounds like a result to me.

we sometimes have a night out at Buon Cibo but hence to say we shall not be going there again! the food is very good there but all the same i would rather not give business to a place that employs illegal immigrants.

Everyone knows the UK Border Agency isn't fit for purpose. It's been said time and time again. However, credit where it's due, at last they've caught somebody!

I dont know that Roy, but I dont claim to be everyone like you. Given the right resources (its not their fault that is not happening) the laws are in place so that they could be effective

Well, I think you will find if you look up the history that a former Labour Home Secretary said it wasn't fit for purpose.
