Watford Lions donate over £6,000 to local charities

Watford Lions Club has given more than £6,000 to charities in the town.

Each year the club collects donations at the Cassiobury fireworks display, donating some to local charities and using the rest to offset the costs of the evening.

This year a total of £11,006 was collected, with £6,201 going to local charities and community groups.

The chairman of Watford council Shirena Counter handed two cheques for £1,000 each to Watford Relate and Watford Homestart charities, which were chosen by the mayor Dorothy Thornhill.

Berice Andrew, president of the Watford Lions Club presented a £1,000 cheque to the Dream to Walk Foundation, set up by Rebecca and Jack Latham from Carpenders Park, who need the money to fund an operation.

Other community groups receiving money included Watford Mencap, the Explorer Scouts, Watford Boys School, Watford Community Church and St Lukes Church.

Well done for all your yearly voluntary efforts at events as at the wonderful Abbotts Langley Carnival. The uniformed bucket shakers that walk the route all do their bit who make our world a better place for so many. Lots of respect to residents & firms who support your work.
