Social housing for local people in Dacorum
11:00am Tuesday 5th February 2013 in News
By Mike Wright, Chief Reporter
Housing bosses in Dacorum are planning to give local people priority for social housing.
The borough council is currently consulting on plans to introduce a local connection criterion for people wanting a council house.
The measure would mean people would have to show they or their immediate family have lived in Dacorum for 10 years, or they have been employed in the borough for at least two years.
However the criteria will not be applied to people over 60 applying for sheltered accommodation or ex-servicemen and women who make an application within five years of their discharge.
Applicants who have a record of antisocial behaviour will also not be able to qualify for social housing in the district.
Residents have until Friday March 2013 to have their say on the changes to social housing policy.
