A male driver had to be cut out of his car after it crashed in Watford this morning.

Two fire crews, an ambulance and the police arrived on the scene in Lower High Street after 9.30am.

The man was alone in the black Vauxhall Astra at the time of the crash.

The car’s roof had to be removed, and the driver was pulled out just after 10am and taken to hospital.

Jacqueline Smith, a Harrow College teacher, from Hemel Hempstead, called the emergency services at 9.20am after witnessing the incident when she was outside Hobbycraft.

Ms Smith said: "I heard a crash and a bang, I looked round and could see the bottom of the car in the air."

That bit of road is so, so frequently misjudged by drivers who take it much too fast. Although more often they come off earlier than this, before the second pass under the viaduct.

I'm sure that is a 30mph speed limit, must be ice on the road as temp this morning was at 1c

It IS a 30 limit. Some people see it as a race track, and sometimes they come a cropper. I've been overtaken by people doing 50+ out of that section.

Yes will need careful thought when the link to the Farm Terrace Housing estate is built across Oxhey Park to the bend in question.

Seem to be a lot of RTA's in the paper this week, it's not like the weather is bad so are these more examples of drivers failing to drive at an appropriate speed for the road conditions? More driver training clearly needed.

I drove along Dalton Way this evening. The crash barrier before the second passage under the railway was totalled, and it wasn't wrecked on Sunday. If the car impacted there and ended up in the entrance to Century Retail Park, I'd hate to think what speed they must have been doing.
