Croxley Green woman Winifred Philips, celebrates 105th birthday

A Croxley Green resident celebrated her 105th birthday yesterday surrounded by family and well-wishers.

Winifred Philips marked the incredible milestone with cake and a buffet at the Croxley House care home in The Green.

Mrs Phillips was joined by members of her extended family including daughter Joan Overton, and great-granddaughter Samantha Haddon.

Ms Overton said: "She was also here for her 100th birthday; it is a very nice spread, a lovely cake, and a great day for her."

Mrs Phillips, who was born in Willesden, north-west London, has lived in the village for 80 years.

Shortly after marrying on June 10 1933, Mrs Phillips and her husband moved to a home in Watford Road, Croxley Green and she found work as a school secretary at Rickmansworth School.

Mrs Phillips moved to Croxley House around a decade ago. She is known to be very fond of a game of scrabble but has had to give it up in recent years as her eye sight deteriorated.

Her great-granddaughter Ms Haddon said: "Scrabble has always been her favourite; we used to spend quite a lot of time together when I was young.

"She certainly played regularly until after she turned 100."

Tracey Jones, deputy manager at Croxley House, said: "She is a very happy and friendly lady who never complains about anything.

"She is very popular with all the staff and has got a great appetite and likes to watch the entertainment."
