A young man from Kings Langley is vowing to be crowned Britain’s Best Groomed Man in a competition to raise awareness of testicular cancer.

Andrew Zographos, who is a sports development manager for Saracens Rugby Club, has made it to the top 30 of a competition to find Britain’s Best Groomed Man, which could see him win a year-long modelling contract.

After searching online, he decided to enter the competition by sending in a photograph "on the off chance."

The 20-year-old said: "I am really focussed on having good presentation and being well groomed. Making a first impression really counts so I figured I am twenty and I might as well give it a go.

"When I found out I was in the top 30 of the competition, I was really surprised and thought it was a scam at first.

"It has been absolutely amazing experience so far and it could kick-start my dream career."

Mr Zographos of Toms Lane decided to enter the competition because he wanted to raise awareness of Orchid, a charity dedicated to raising awareness of testicular cancer.

He said cancer has had an impact on his life, due to close family friends and school friends being affected.

Mr Zographos said: "Raising awareness of male cancer really motivated me to do it because it has affected many close people around me and this was my chance to do something about it.

"My friends and family have been really supportive and when I told them my reasons for entering they were very emotional and very proud of me.

"I would be disappointed if I wasn’t to win. However at the same time I am happy to have helped raise awareness of male cancer in some way because that was the reason for entering."

The national competition has been organised by a male grooming brand, The Bluebeards Revenge, which aims to encourage men to self-check for cancer during their daily grooming routine.

Online public voting closes on Friday, March 8 and Mr Zographos now has a nervous wait to find out if he will be the face of grooming products as he goes head to head with 29 other men.

He added: "Everyone has been really great at raising awareness via social networking sites and hopefully I will gain enough votes to win.

"I am nervous but excited at the same time. I guess we will have to wait and see."
