The Watford branch of entertainment retailer HMV will be closing, administrators announced this morning.

The chain has revealed that 66 stores will be closing their doors, including the one in The Harlequin centre, leaving 930 employees without jobs.

There is no set date for the closures but it is expected to be within the next couple of months.

Stores in St Albans and Luton will also be shut.

The retailer, which has been running for 92 years, was forced into administration on January 15.

Nick Edwards, joint administrator, said: "As part of our ongoing review of HMV’s financial position, we have now completed a review of the store portfolio and have identified 66 loss making stores for closure.

"This step has been taken in order to enhance the prospects of securing the business’ future as a growing concern.

"We continue to receive strong support from staff and are extremely grateful to them for their commitment during an understandably difficult period.

"All other key stakeholders remain very supportive and I continue to be hopeful of securing a future for the restructured business."
