Police close Yellow and Red Lion pub ahead of Watford FC game against Crystal Palace

A Watford FC fans' pub has been closed by police ahead of the match with Crystal Palace FC this evening.

Officers said they were closing the Yellow and Red Lion Pub in Vicarage Road for this evening due to “concerns around public safety”.

Hertfordshire Constabulary said the decision had been made after officers assessed the security situation around tonight’s fixture.

So not only does it only have one proper trading day a fortnight, on the really big match days, it is closed....

What the police probably mean is that, being a Friday night, they don't have adequate resources to maintain safety.

What's the point in having a match day pub not being able to open on match day. Especially crazy bearing in mind palace not noted for their hooligan element and being an weekday evening game can't imagine too many fans get up early enough to the ground to get too hammered.

Welcome to prohibition.Do they get a rebate on their business rates or compensation from the police because their job has supposedly been made easier? Do all pubs close near football stadiums eg when Spurs play Arsenal?

What a frigging JOKE!!! Hertfordshire police you really are an embarrassment!! The only potential flashpoint will be the Wetherspoons!! Have they closed that?? NO CHANCE...and the Oddfellows which is for away fans?? This is right up there with keeping the Watford fans in for 15 minutes after a HOME game with Luton a few years back!!

Not that easy to understand...unless of course there had been threats from LD!

Shocking really, typical police though. Why not get pubs in and around to ban away fans as it is them that are trouble makers not watford fans and we get punished....TOO1S!!!

Never heard anything like it, if the police suspected trouble then thats their job to be there and police it, not close the venue and hope it doesnt happen elseware
