Bedmond party stopped by police

A party in Bedmond which was expected to see a turn out of 500 guests has been stopped by police.

Officers received information about the rave, which was due to take place on Friday, February 1, with 500 people expected to attend on private land.

After receiving information two warrants took place in Watford on January 23, where officers seized a large amount of nitrous oxide canisters.

Two men, both aged 21 from Watford, were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a public nuisance and are currently on police bail.

Police said previous events have caused considerable noise, nuisance and disruption for residents in surrounding areas.

Neighbourhood team inspector Robin Winder said: “The rave was expected to cause considerable disruption to the local area, creating noise and traffic disruption.

“We were also made aware that nitrous oxide was planned to be used at the rave and, although this is not illegal to take, it can be extremely dangerous and have fatal consequences when mis-used.

“The area has historically had raves in the past and I hope this sends a strong message to anyone involved in planning future events that we will use all our powers to pre-empt them and prevent them from occurring.”

They say things turn full circle.

As someone involved in the late eighties acid house and early nineties rave scene (aka the first summer of love), this sub culture was responsible for many positive things.

It brought people of all creeds, colours and faiths together as one. It almost single handedly destroyed football violence, where instead of going toe to toe on a Saturday afternoon, it was shoulder to shoulder on a Saturday night on a sweaty dance floor. Most if all at the height of Thatcherisim, millions of youths through out the UK stood up to the conservatives attempts to wantonly disassemble society, this was a huge "one finger salute to the tories".

Obviously, the tories weren't happy that the lower classes were actually enjoying themselves, they looked to close parties citing health and safety and tax avoidance as the reasons for doing so. I have my doubts.....

If anyone's interested, there is a great book by Wayne Anthony called "Class of 88" who was one of the main organisers of parties within the M25 area.

Those were the days Turpie! Best ever!

The British made movie "Rise of the Foot Soldier" captures part of the rawness of that period, albeit short lived.

The Saturday nights when we all waited in the Game Bird car park waiting for the phone call telling us where the next rave was. Great nights with no hassle.
If only my kids knew!
