A suspected arson that saw two fuel tankers set alight in Sarratt is being investigated by police.

The tankers were parked at New Model Farm in Sarratt Road last Wednesday evening (February 6) when the cabs of both vehicles were set alight.

Fire crews from Watford and Garston were called at around 7.40pm and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the trailers.

A Herts police spokesman said: "Police are investigating a two vehicle fire which occurred at a farm on Sarratt Road, Sarratt at 7.40pm on Wednesday, February 6.

"Investigations are taking place at the scene today with Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to determine the cause of the fire and establish whether it was started deliberately.

"If anyone was in the in the area around the time the fire started and saw anything out of the ordinary, they are asked to contact the Local Crime Unit in Rickmansworth via the non-emergency number, 101."

A Hertfordshire County Council spokesman said: "The fire service was called at 7.36pm to report a vehicle fire, when they got there they found two fuel tankers well alight.

"It is believed to be arson and it could have been a potentially serious incident if the fire service hadn’t managed to put it out."
