Campaigning allotment group raise awareness with brunch (From Watford Observer)

Well done to SJT and all those involved. With the current situation where major food retailing shareholders are putting profit before being truthful to customers of what their products contain - this proves that we have more need for allotments and independant greengrocers as other independant food sellers. It's possibly badly processed food that is responsible for sending the majority to hospital with health issues to begin with!

Not sure what you mean, Andrew, I don't think the sort of produce grown in allotments is much different from the fruit and veg you buy in the shops, other than it is very locally grown so has few if any food miles, may be freer from chemical residues, and of course own grown veg. always tastes better than bland supermarket produce. Most of the processed food health issues are related to meat products like horseburger and donkey lasagne, neither of which are grown in allotments as far as I know, or are those plump sausages in the photo home grown in Farm Terrace?

What i mean is that corners have been cut by ruthless conglomerates, what's to say that we find chemicals used to treat fruit and veg are found to be cheap and below standard. If we can't trust their meat products why can we have confidence in the rest of the products?

If people eat more healthily, there would be less need for hospital expansions surely.

Good points Andrew, own grown is always healthier than shop bought (so long as you lay off the pesticides) plus you benefit from the fresh air and exercise growing the produce and digging it up. I'm very much in favour of allotments and am very glad to learn that all of the FT allotments displaced by the Health Campus will be replaced by new plots on other sites.

Can I take issue with this rather misleading headline? The Farm Terrace Allotment Group is NOT campaigning against the Watford Health Campus. They have no gripe with the building of new hospital facilities. They just don't want their allotments to be taken away to have houses built on them.

Does the 650 homes yet have a title because this debate isn't simply about the Health Campus title which is always the banner used to beat the drum on this debate. It's also about rail networks, a school,a supermarket, hotels, commercial development, etc.

Surely this is a more appropriate headline than simply what increasingly seems to be a hospital extensionsion.

The Mayor said on BBC3 Counties Radio, not all the land was needed. Surely there should be room for compromise?

The hospital has not been planned.

The hospital has not been funded.

No-one has a clue yet what will or will not be needed in the final plans.

The council wants the land for HOUSING.

The council has no interest in keeping the allotments on this extremely valuable building land.

Is that simple enough for you to understand, councillor?

I have never been to a gathering where 100 people are in charge of the BBQ (as in the picture)!!
Also perhaps you would like to check your maths... 2/5 does not equal half!

This was a public event therefore the organisers had to do a 'risk assessment'. As there was no way of knowing how many people would turn up, it made sense for them to put the barbecue area slightly away from the area where most people would be congregating.

There were well over a hundred visitors so well done Steve for your sterling efforts running the barbecue. And well done Sara and all the organisers. It was a great event, despite the weather. And it was wonderful talking to all the people who came along to show their support. What a shame Dorothy didn't come along and meet them too.

To see three people in a photo and then make the comment "(btw doesn't look like 100 people in the picture)" shows the level the LibDems stoop to to quell dissent. To me it shows a complete lack of honesty and integrity, which is exactly what I have seen from the Lib Dems on the council, particularly over Farm Terrace dealings.

2/5 does not equal half, SJT knows that, I know that, I would think that everyone in Watford knows that and I know for sure the MikeWatford knows that, but then why let something like the truth, honesty or facts get in the way of the Liberal Lie Machine?

Councillor NotVery (Sharpe), there are no plans drawn up yet nor funding. How can they therefore make such a statement with any degree of confidence?
