Park Street rail freight: Campaigners take petition to the streets
Campaigners against plans for a rail freight terminal near Radlett will take to the streets this weekend with their petition in a final push to gather signatures.
Residents who haven’t yet signed the petition will have the opportunity to show their support at a stall in St Albans market from 9:30am on Saturday.
The online petition, set up in January, aims to convince the county council not to sell the land needed to build a controversial rail freight near St Albans and Radlett.
Secretary of State Eric Pickles announced at the end of last year that the site will go ahead, despite objections from residents, politicians and councils.
Cathy Bolshaw, co-ordinator for STRIFE, said: "In the next two weeks we will have a final big push to hit our target.
"Hopefully people will come along this weekend to sign the paper petition."
So far the petition has collected 7,714 signatures and the closing date to sign is March 31.

Firstly, the rail freight terminal. If this was properly managed with access directly to and from the M25 and Lorry bans to stop rat runs in the local streets then I can see no realistic reason for it to not go ahead.
The second option is to fill the land with rabbit hutch sized properties, provide the minimum infrastructure investment required by law and therefore maximising the developers profit. The results would be even worse traffic problems than the rail freight terminal and an added bonus of lack of school places, Dentist, Doctors appointments etc.
Be careful what you wish for, I seriously doubt that this valuable land will be left vacant just because of a few signatures.
