Purcell School pupil Alan Mofti hired to write music for Queen's entrance at Commonwealth procession

A young musician from Bushey’s Purcell School has been commissioned to write a short fanfare for the arrival of Her Majesty The Queen at Commonwealth Observance Day in Westminster Abbey on March 11.

Year 11 pupil and composer, Alan Mofti, will see his fanfare being played by young brass players after the procession of Commonwealth Flags, as the Queen walks from her car to the entrance of the Abbey.

Alan, 16, said: "I’m just very excited about this opportunity - it’s very high profile and I hope people enjoy my music!"

The theme for the event is ‘Opportunity through Enterprise’, and there will be a mix of world music, dance and personal testimonies.

The UK's largest multi-faith celebration, the Commonwealth Day Observance is attended by Her Majesty The Queen, the Prime Minister, High Commissioners, up to 200 other VIPs and more than 1,000 schoolchildren.
